Growth spurt · Newborn
The first growth spurts
Short bursts of extra feeding around 7–10 days and 2–3 weeks are common.

From our home
Many newborns have two early growth spurts: around 7–10 days, then again around 2–3 weeks. Feeds can bunch together. That is often cluster feeding, not a sign that milk has 'run out'.
What to expect
- Baby wants to feed again and again, especially in the evening.
- Sleep can be patchy for a few days.
- Extra clinging is normal.
What can help
- Follow baby's hunger cues instead of stretching the clock.
- Keep night feeds quiet and the lights low.
- Ask for help so you can rest too.
