Mental Leap 3: Body and Voice Control
Around 3 months, movements may look less jerky. Your baby may hold their head steadier, follow you with their eyes and make new cooing sounds.

From our home
The Wonder Weeks calls this smooth transitions. In simple terms, your baby's brain is starting to control movement and sound a little better. This does not mean they should already reach for and grab a toy; that usually comes later.
What to expect
- Arm and leg movements may look less jerky.
- Their head may feel steadier when you hold them.
- They may follow you with their eyes or try new cooing sounds.
What can help
- Talk to your baby and copy the sounds they make.
- Slowly move your face or a toy from side to side for them to watch.
- Give short, watched tummy-time sessions while they are awake.
