First molars: 13–19 months

The first molars often arrive between 13 and 19 months. Lower molars are commonly 14–18 months.

Molars are the wider teeth near the back of the mouth. They help your toddler chew.

What to expect

Upper or lower molars may arrive first.
More than one molar may come close together.

Simple care

Clean the chewing surface carefully.
Offer a cool teether if gums are sore.
